Dr. Erol Gund specializes in Orthodontia in Dental Associates of Connecticut’s Danbury office, where he has practiced since 1992. Dr. Gund completed his dental and orthodontic training at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Dr. Gund has been recognized by the Invisalign Corporation as one of the top 100 doctors in the country using the Invisalign invisible braces. He is the largest provider of Invisalign and Invisalign Teen in the state of Connecticut. In 2011 and again in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, Dr. Gund’s peers recognized his orthodontic expertise by ranking him among Connecticut Top Dentists according to Connecticut Magazine.
Dr. Gund is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, and the North East Society of Orthodontics. He speaks at community health and charity events on the importance of good dental health. He continues to take courses on the advancements of orthodontic techniques to keep on the cutting edge and to ensure his patients are getting the best treatment possible. That means great smiles for both kids and adults.
When he’s not working with his patients, Dr. Gund enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter. He also enjoys traveling, and outdoor activities such as boating, tennis, and skiing.
Dr. Marissa Ruggiero graduated from NYU College of Dentistry and completed her Pediatric specialty training at UCONN Health in 2024. She has a passion for working with children and treats patients like family, prioritizing their comfort and care. With a background in dental fear research, Dr. Ruggiero listens to her patients and understands their needs.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Ruggiero enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and baking. She loves hosting game nights with her husband and is a proud cat mom to two energetic brothers. Dr. Ruggiero is an active member of the AAPD and the ADA, continually enhancing her skills and knowledge in pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Carbonella is a board-certified orthodontist who specializes in treating patients of all ages using both Invisalign and braces, ranging from simple smile enhancement treatments all the way up to complex orthognathic surgery. He’s a CT native who graduated with honors from UCONN Storrs with a degree in biology and then attended UCONN’s School of Dental Medicine on a full military scholarship and graduated at the top of his class. Once on active duty, he sought further training, completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency, and then practiced general dentistry for four years. Dr. Carbonella then attended the rigorous and prestigious Tri-Service Orthodontic Residency Program (TORP) in San Antonio. He then served as one of two American Orthodontists in the UK and finished his active-duty career as a full-time faculty member back at TORP.
After fifteen years of military service, he is now proud to offer comprehensive orthodontic treatment at our practice with the highest degree of quality and customer service!
Dr. Joseph Guzzardi is a Connecticut native. He attended the University of Connecticut, where he was awarded the prestigious Piergrossi scholarship for academic achievement in dental scholastics.
After graduating from dental school in 2011, Dr. Guzzardi, Dr. Joe to his patients, entered pediatric dental residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. He gained extensive experience in hospital-based dentistry, dental trauma, and treating children with special needs.
Dr. Joe became board certified in 2015 and has been awarded the Consumer Research Council of America Top Dentist, and has been named Connecticut Magazine’s Top Dentist yearly since 2015. He is a member of the ADA, CSDA, and AAPD. He is BLS and PALS certified.
Dr. Joe spends his free time with his two young children, Fiona and Gavin. He cares for every child as if they were his own and is committed to establishing a healthy dental base for them as they enter adulthood.

Dr. Michelle, as her patients call her, previously practiced in Fairfield, CT. She completed her pediatric specialty training and served as chief resident at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital.
Dr. Michelle’s passion is creating positive experiences for patients; she has been affectionately called “mother goose” by parents for her singing and rhyming with young patients. In addition to her pediatric expertise, Dr. Michelle also specializes in frenectomies.
She lives in Fairfield with her husband, newborn daughter, and grumpy English Cocker Spaniel. When not in the office, she spends summers sailing on Long Island Sound, and winters climbing frozen waterfalls across the Northeast.
Dr. Susie Shim is a board-certified pediatric dentist who strives to create memorable and special memories at the dentist. She devotes her energy to exceptional care and aims to educate her patients for optimal lifelong oral health. As a mother of two boys, she understands the importance of compassionate care and respect.
Her favorite aspect of the job is seeing her patients growing up and sharing their experiences in and out of the dental office.
